Keyboard Layout Generator ~ Manual

This software works in "modes". In different modes keybindings and functionality change.

Some modes are "sub-modes" of others. This means they can only be accessed by their parent modes. For example, you can only get to the "chooseCenter" mode through the "modify" mode, meaning the "chooseCenter" mode is a "sub-mode" of the "modify" mode.

Default Mode

This mode is the mode that is presented at the start of the software. This is where you change your next action

  • Press "n" to create a new key and go to "modify" mode
  • Press "s" to go into "select" mode

Modify Mode

This mode allows you to make modifications to a key. In this mode, the current key you are modifying will be selected with a black border.

  • Press "space" to go to "default" mode.
  • Press the up and down arrow keys to change a key's "priority"
  • Press "s" to change the current key to a "special" key
  • Press "c" to go to the "chooseCenter" mode
  • Press "b" to go to the "makeBounds" mode

Select Mode

This mode allows you to select a key to modify it

  • Click on a key in order to select it and go to the "modify" mode

Choose Center Mode

A sub-mode of "modify", this mode allows you to choose a center for a key

  • In this mode simply click to place the key's new center and go back to "modify" mode.

Make Bounds Mode

A sub-mode of "modify", this mode allows to choose the rectangular bounds of a key

  • Move the mouse to change the desired width and height of the key, click when done to go back to the "modify" mode.

Modify Mode

This mode is the mode that is presented at the start of the software. This is where you change your next action

  • Press "n" to create a new key and go to "default" mode
  • Press "s" to go into "select" mode
